The Presentation

We had our big presentation today, it was quite daunting. But I’m happy that my group and I have made it this far and considering everything I think we did a pretty good job.

I was very impressed by the 3minute video and advert made by my other group members. I hadn’t seen it till today but I think they really put a lot of thought and effort into it.

I think that I may have been a bit too negative and honest in the presentation, but I wanted the judges to know that we have thought through everything and how we can improve.

So this is finally the end of this project, now onto the next…

My experience with the Field collaboration project.

This has been quite a stressful few weeks, but to be honest that just seems like my whole uni experience so far. But don’t worry there are rainbows at the end!

So as you guys know I’ve been working in a group of Art and Design students, we had to come together to make and design a bag. The beginning went pretty smoothly, we managed to come up with a design that we all were happy with and were able to crack on with the real thing. The only thing I would say was an issue at this point was communication. I didn’t actually know what everyone was doing and some people didn’t attend much and have much input on the progress that was being made. I think this slowed us down greatly because we ended up going off on different tangents, wanting different things and when it came together it didn’t always mesh well.

I ended up making, pattern cutting and sewing most of the bag. I was quite frustrated when making it as the material that was bought was really slidy, making it awkward to sew. It also was a really thin fabric which was not suitable for the look we were going for, as the thickness didn’t hold it’s shape very well. I wanted to line it with a studier fabric so we could get the results we were looking for. But by that time it was too late to get material as the deadline was too close. So after racking our brains and speaking to a tutor for advice we decided to line it with card.

I’m really not happy with how the bag has turned out. However, I think we have all learnt a lesson with this, which is to communicate more about what’s best for our product and time manage ourselves.

Embroidering the bag

So today we finally got the last bits of our bag done. We sent it to the stitch room and got the Supreme logo embroidered onto the straps. I’m so happy we’ve got that out of the way! Now all we need to do is our photoshoot which is scheduled for Thursday and the advert commercial.

Working in a group

Working in a group is quite challenging, there’s so many idea’s bouncy around, so many opinions so many disagreements but somehow you work out your differences and make something pretty cool.

So If you’ve kept updated with my previous posts you will know that I’m working in a group to make a bag which is based off of our own sub-brand from the label Supreme.

I’ve been assigned to pattern cut and sew the bag. However another member of my group did help create the pattern with me.

So for the last day or two I’ve been experimenting with different types of pockets and figuring out how I’m going to construct everything. As a group we’ve had to edit our design a few times because it was just impossible…well extremely complicated to put together.

Another issue that we’re currently facing is the material. It’s just too thin and flimsy, especially for a bag. It’s super awkward to work with too, as it has a slidy texture. But I do admit that it does look quite cool and changes colour in the light (it’s just not very practical).

Unfortunately we’re stuck with this fabric as we only have till the end of this week to complete it and it’s already been printed on with our textile. We also have to do a photoshoot,  make a 3 minute video on our production and a commercial. So…quite a lot. If you can’t get hold of me this week it’s probably because I’m having a mini breakdown.

So these are a few pics of what we’ve been woking on.

Submitting our idea.

So this week my field group and I have to design a bag that fits in with our theme ‘Thorn’ which is our sub-brand for Supreme.

Within the week we have come up with a design and have been making prototypes to a get a feel of what it would actually look like and how we would construct it. Things have been going pretty well and we have been given the thumbs up to carry out our bag design and make it for real.

Back to Uni

So Christmas is over and it’s time to get back into action! Over the holidays I was working on a group project, communicating and collaborating with two others girls from my class. I may have mentioned this before in a previous post but we have started a new project called ‘Field’. In which we have to collaborate with other art and design students to make a collection. We have been given a the label Supreme and have to make a sub-brand.

Me and the two others from my class have decided to make a lingerie collection as Supreme doesn’t really have much in the underwear department. Their current underwear is pretty basic, sporty and is influenced by Calvin Klein.

As a group we have created a line targeted to young independent woman aged 18-30. This is the final line up we have come up with.

Toil: Shorts

So this week I’ve done another tech workshop. Last time learnt I learnt how to make a basic dress with a fitted straight sleeve. This time we focused on making high waisted shorts.

I feel like my sewing and pattern skills are improving as this workshop went a lot smoother than the last and I was able too complete it quite quickly. The only thing I would say that I need to work on is ironing and pressing my garments… It’s a lot harder that you think you know, those creases are evil!! IMG_9661
